Laborer - Facilities Department
Summary:
Under the direction of the Facilities Director, performs a variety of interior and exterior work to maintain Town facilities in a condition of operating excellence so that the buildings can be fully used at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintenance duties include but are not limited to dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, washing and waxing floors, cleaning bathrooms, and windows.
- Set up and move tables, chairs, and equipment as necessary for various meetings, including audio visual set up.
- Shovel, snow blow and salt all walks and stairs at town buildings. Mandatory snow removal for town building safety protocol.
- Use tools such as power saws of all types, sanders, drills, nail guns and various hand tools.
- Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual or unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Maintain equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
- Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations, including OSHA regulations.
- Work with Paint and prep materials in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Work diligently with and around coworkers and residents in a respectful and organized manner.
- Assist Building Maintenance Craftsman with Carpentry, electrical, plumbing and HVAC maintenance as required.
- Candidate should possess a keen ability to troubleshoot, and problem solve.
- Must be responsible to drive to parks and playgrounds to remove and monitor field and playground trash on a seasonal schedule.
- Able to respond in a timely manner to various work orders.
The above are typical tasks regularly performed, but additional related tasks of equivalent skills and responsibilities are performed as service requirements change.
Minimum Qualifications:
Skills, knowledge, and abilities:
*Valid Driver’s license required.
*Working knowledge of basic hand tools and demonstrated mechanical aptitude required.
* Knowledge of electricity, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanics or the willingness to learn preferred.
*Must pass CORI background check
Education and Training:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Demands:
*Frequent periods spent walking, standing, bending, stretching, and climbing ladders: Occasional requirement to sustain uncomfortable physical positions.
*Occasional periods spent outside, requiring exposure to all types of weather.
*Must lift and carry work materials, (hand tools, ladders, construction material and the like, some weighing 75lbs) utilizing proper body mechanics and lifting techniques.
*Subject to interruptions to handle emergency situations.
* Subject to exposure to chemicals such as bleach and cleaners, requiring proper safety precautions and the ability to read warning labels.
*Operate equipment which causes loud noise levels and some vibrations. Exercise caution when operating equipment.
